Bioprocess development & Scale Up

Fermentation process development

Scalability is one of the most important features of microbial technology development. Therefore, we address bioprocess development from an early stage of the development project. With decades of experience and a vast range of fermentation volumes, we guarantee smooth bioprocess development when scaling-up. More than 35 laboratory-scale reactors (1-10L) ensure we can rapidly advance in optimization of media and bioprocess conditions, using a DoE-based approach towards fine-tuning the fermentation conditions. Optimizing microbial growth coupled with high production is our key priority.

We offer extensive expertise in development of:

  • Batch and Fed-batch bioprocess
  • Continuous bioprocesses
  • ISPR (in situ product removal) bioprocess

Scale-Up & Optimization

Throughout its existence, Acies Bio scaled numerous strains, from the industry adopted (e.g. E. coli, B. subtilis, Pichia, Yarrowia, Saccharomyces, Trichoderma) to many other less common organisms including sporogenes. Our demonstration facility, with up to 10,000 L fermentation volumes and versatile DSP equipment, positions us as one of the leading companies for industrial bioprocess development. After the initial fermentation process development, we can evaluate production KPIs on a bigger demonstration scale (30 – 150 m3), where the evaluation of technology performance can be maximized.

Furthermore, our commitment to eco-efficiency is complemented by the integration of innovative, circular economy-inspired solutions. Apart from the usage of conventional fed-batch fermentations and glucose as the main carbon source, we extend our focus to the exploration of alternative feedstocks and usage of advanced fermentation techniques.
